Nearly 794,900 narcotic pills have been seized with the arrest of three traders in Ajman and Al Ain, the Abu Dhabi Police announced.
A taskforce composed of different security authorities in the UAE - called 'spirit of cooperation' - helped nab the traders, Colonel Dr Rashid Mohammed Bu Rasheed, Director of the Department of Criminal Investigation at the Abu Dhabi Police, said.
One suspect hid in a water tank when the police raided his villa in Al Ain. A part of the seized drugs was found hidden in a tank, which one of the suspects planned to smuggle into a neighbouring country. Another suspect had the pills hidden in his apartment in Ajman, as well as in a rented vehicle.
The suspects, Kh.S.A 38 (GCC national); A.T.A 31 (GCC national); and S.Kh.S also 31 (Arab national), were promoting the narcotic pills at home and abroad. As many as 537 bags, which were filled with the substances were found and seized in Ajman, while one of the accused had 160 bags placed in his vehicle.
The traders of the narcotic pills also employed a driver, who resides in a GCC state. The police are coordinating with the Gulf state to take action against the driver.
A source helped determine information about those who were delivering and receiving the drugs in Al Quoz, Dubai.
Colonel Saeed Abdullah Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the Anti-Narcotics Federal Directorate General at the Ministry of Interior, explained that the planning of the crime and its implementation has been set in three different emirates, stressing that drug trafficking offenses and promotion is no longer only a local crime linked to geographical competence of a specific area.
He pointed out that traders could extend to several areas where the legal and regulatory jurisdictions often overlap and create a security challenge.
