Four Arab teachers have been shortlisted for the Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize 2016 which could see them win US$1m.
One female teacher from Jordan, and three teachers from Palestine made it to the top 50 shortlist.
The award will be handed out at the Global Education and Skills Forum in Dubai on 16 March.
The top 50 shortlisted teachers have been judged by a prize committee with the final 10 candidates to be announced in February 2016.
The foundation has identified the top 50 best teachers out of 8,000 nominations from 148 countries.
Four Indian and three Pakistani teachers also made it to the top 50 shortlist.
All 10 finalists will be invited to Dubai for the awards ceremony where the winner will be announced. The Varkey Foundation launched the Global Teacher Prize in 2014 to raise the stature of the teaching profession.
