It's a good time to be in the UAE these days. After week-long holidays for Eid Al Adha, and before that Eid Al Fitr, residents in the UAE can now look forward to a long weekend.

October 2 is likely to be the Hijri New Year's day, marking the beginning of the new Islamic calendar.

Today, September 25, is the 23rd day of the Zul Hijjah month of the Hijri calendar, thereby making October 1, a Saturday, the last day of the month. This means October 2, Sunday, will mark the beginning of the first month -- Muharram -- of the new Islamic year.
Here are some longer weekends you can avail in 2016:
Wednesday, Nov 30 - Commemoration Day
Falling on Wednesday in 2016, November 30 marks Martyr's Day or Commemoration Day in the UAE. The day is a new public holiday, observed in the honour Emiratis who have died for their country. Single day off shall be granted on the day.
Friday, Dec 2- UAE National Day
As the UAE celebrates National Day on December 2, there is a possibility of a longer weekend. As the National Day falls on Friday, clubbing it with the off day of the Martyr's day (November 30, Wednesday) can give workers a longer weekend.
Monday, December 12 - Prophet Mohammad's (PBUH) Birthday
The holiday observed on the birthday of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) is falling on December 12, Monday, this year. This can give a longer weekend to workers by moving the off day to Sunday, is possible.
