Police station clerk poses as CID officer to rape Dubai woman

A police station clerk, accused of pretending he was a CID officer to lure a woman inside his car and raping her, has been sentenced to six months in jail and deportation.
The Court of First Instance convicted the 32-year-old Pakistani man of consensual sex and impersonation of a police officer charges. It cleared him of kidnapping the woman, a Moroccan.
He denied the charge in court earlier claiming he had never met the complainant prior to the case.
According to public prosecution records, the accused stopped the woman as she walked outside a restaurant in Al Riqqa.He fooled her into riding in his car after claiming he was a CID officer.
In her statement, the woman said that once inside his car, the man would not let her go. He kidnapped and raped her and dropped her later after stealing her mobile phones, Dh 500 in cash and her watch.
The incident was reported on April 18, last year, to Al Rafaa police station. The accused was arrested around 10 pm the next day in Al Aweer.
The complainant said that she came to Dubai to look for a job and stayed in a hotel in Freej al Murar. She had just walked out of a fast food outlet in Al Riqqa at 8 pm when the defendant who was then driving a 4WD stopped her. "He said he was a police officer and was investigating a jewelry shop robbery carried out by women. He locked the car the moment I got inside and snapped a photo of my left hand".
He did not let her leave the car and told her to keep quiet and she complied as she believed he was a cop indeed.
He drove to a residential area where he parked outside a villa.
He made her sit in the back seat of the car where he raped her.
He then drove to the highway where he stopped a cab for her after stealing her cash and other belongings.
"We arrested the accused based on the descriptions she gave us of him and his car," a police sergeant said.
The defendant became very scared and tense when he was first confronted by police officers. "He confessed he posed as a cop to lure her into riding with him. He claimed he drove towards Shaikh Zayed Road upon her request and that he invited her to a restaurant but she declined".
He then went to a shop at a gas station where he bought some stuff. "He was caught on CCTV pulling over at a petrol station on Al Wasl Road. He then drove to Al Quoz".
The accused admitted to the sergeant he was driving a car, belonging to the police, on the incident day.
The verdict may be appealed.
