Despite being another overnight millionaire in the UAE, an Indian expat is in no mood to mark the grand occasion.
Britty Markose won Dh10 million at the Big Ticket raffle draw held in Abu Dhabi International Airport on Saturday morning. But hit by flu and sore throat, the Dubai-based draughtsman is unable to celebrate the once-in-a-lifetime windfall.
In fact, the organisers said that Markose collapsed upon hearing about the result. Markose, who hails from Kerala's Pathanamthitta district said that he collapsed because he was surprised. "For a moment I went numb. Now, both my phones are ringing incessantly," Markose told Khaleej Times.
Markose said he was expecting to win. "So many are winning (from Kerala) and every time I harbour great expectations. But this time I had a feeling that I will win". He added that this was the fifth time he had purchased a ticket.
Like any expat, he too has loans to repay and a dream house to build.
On what's next, he said: "How long am I going to work under someone else? Now, I plan to start my own business." He is unclear if his business ambitions will take shape in the UAE or Kerala. His wife and two kids are settled in Kerala. "My children are studying in Kerala. I will let this day sink in and then I will take a call on what to do next," Markose said.
His winning ticket number was 208011.
