UAE cars to automatically alert cops after crash

Abu Dhabi - The system will enable the entities concerned to access the accident scene in the shortest possible time.

 The Abu Dhabi Police's emergency centre has received international accreditation for handling automated accident vehicle emergency calls. An eCall system fitted in vehicles will automatically alert the police control room in cases of accidents. The system will be fitted in all new vehicle models coming to the UAE from 2021, top officials said at a Press conference on Monday.
The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) said in cases of emergencies, the system would automatically send information like the location, vehicle type, fuel type and number of passengers inside the vehicle. The TRA developed the eCall system in cooperation with the Emirates Authority For Standardisation & Metrology and police authorities.
Mohamed Jadah, director, wireless networks and services, said: "The system reduces response time to accidents and provides the authorities concerned with the information necessary for rescue and ambulance operations, thereby playing a central role in reducing the number of deaths and serious injuries."
The TRA had previously conducted all the necessary tests on the operators' networks (Etisalat and du) to ensure they were ready to optimally operate the eCALL system. The operators were internationally accredited in 2015.
The system will enable the entities concerned to access the accident scene in the shortest possible time. The project materialised after three years of research conducted by government and private entities, and vehicle agencies and manufacturers to determine the specifications.
