Abu Dhabi and Al Ain experienced hazy weather conditions with occasional sandstorms throughout the day.
Dr S.K. Gupta, duty forecaster at the Meteorological Office of Dubai International Airport (DIA), said while cloudy skies brought isolated rain showers, coupled with thunder and lightning in Dubai, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah, the skies cleared during the later part of the day.
Cloudy skies
Gupta said partly cloudy skies would continue to envelop the emirates until tomorrow and added that the temperatures were likely to fall on Monday and Tuesday due to the developing Shamal (northwest) winds.
“Dubai received 0.6mm rainfall, which is not much. But we can expect patches of cloud on Saturday also,” Gupta said. The maximum temperature recorded in the emirate yesterday touched 25 degrees and the minimum stood at 17.
Showers in RAK
Ras Al Khaimah received light showers that lasted for about two hours yesterday, paving the way for cooler conditions.
In Al Ain, dust storms resulting from strong winds forced residents to stay indoors throughout the day.
According to the Met official, the dust-laden winds blew in the south-southwest direction at 15mph throughout the afternoon. In the evening, the winds blew from the same direction at 21mph. Similar conditions are forecast for Saturday, with humid weather at night and haze and mist in early morning.
In Abu Dhabi, the evening temperature dropped to 14-17 degree. Moderate to light rain is expected today in the eastern and northern areas of the emirate, particularly in the northern high lands, an official at the Meteorology Department of the National Authority for Communications informed.
Rain forecast
Rain is also forecast for Sunday and Monday. While no misty conditions are predicted in the mornings, the sea waves are expected to reach between 4 and 6 metres. The authorities have advised people in all the emirates to avoid engaging in sea-related activities over the next few days.
