A dual-lens camera, improvements on the iconic keyboard and a reasonable price, among many others: TCL Communication wants everyone to know that BlackBerry is still very much in the game.
The legendary brand's latest smartphone, the BlackBerry Key2, was launched at an event in New York and promises a souped-up experience.
The device is the "most advanced BlackBerry smartphone ever", Alain Lejeune, senior vice-president at TCL Communication and president of BlackBerry Mobile, said in a release.
"We've created a distinct smartphone that captures all the traits that have made BlackBerry smartphones iconic, while introducing new innovations and experiences that not only make this one of the best devices for security and privacy," he added.
The BlackBerry Key2 will begin shipping this month. In a Press release received by Khaleej Times, TCL confirmed that the device will be priced at Dh2,399 in the UAE. Pre-order dates are expected to be announced soon.
While the Key2 largely retains the looks of its predecessor, the KeyOne, a closer look will show you that it has a slimmer top bezel - though it retains the 4.5-inch screen - and keys that are slightly wider. And it's the first BlackBerry device to feature a dual-lens camera.
There's also a new Speed Key, which is described as a universal shortcut that allows users to instantly access frequently-used apps, contacts and other functions. It runs on the latest version of the Android operating system, 8.1 Oreo.
TCL also guarantees the device's security, a staple in BlackBerry devices.
